Welcome To Just Joey's Roses
We specialize in Own Root Roses.
Own roots are just that, roses that are propagated from the parent plant without any grafting. Most are also container grown. With own root roses, there is no competition from unwanted under stock shooting up suckers (large and obnoxious canes without flowers). You will know that every cane that shoots up from the ground is the rose you wanted, not rootstock that has to be cut back (plus rootstock competes for nutrients, water, and sun). You will also have roses from the ground up, not naked knees, meaning no roses for the first 18" that you get from grafted roses. In colder climates, own root roses have the best prospect of returning from a bad winter. Bareroots can freeze and only the rootstock returns, usually a red bloom with about 6-8 petals.
What you can expect to receive:
You are going to receive a GREEN and GROWING plant (usually 10"-16" tall with 1-3 stems). Depending upon the time of year you receive them, they will either be budding leaves or later in the season, they will be fully leafed out. The first year, it will grow deep roots and tease you with a few flowers. The following year it will take off and be comparable to the grafted roses. The following year, and thereafter, it will exceed grafted roses in endurance, beauty, and maintenance.
